Our Forestry First Aid course has been designed to provide the knowledge and competence for a learner to deal with emergency first aid situations in a forestry/agricultural environment.

Our Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid course is regulated by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). Don’t accept anything else! 

This qualification is designed to supplement a First Aider’s existing First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and covers the recommended topics stated in the Forestry Commission First Aid policy 2015.

This course is typically delivered as a two-hour ‘bolt-on’ to an Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work course.

Over the two hours, we’ll cover a range of forestry first aid topics including:

  • Emergency planning and remote medical assistance
  • Catastrophic bleeding control
  • Crush injuries
  • Effects of extreme cold
  • Lyme disease

Our Forestry First Aid courses are run as a bolt-on to our EFAW/FAW courses which take place at InTec on Parc Menai in Bangor, North Wales. Bangor is centrally located and easy to access from the Llŷn Peninsula to the south and west, Ynys Môn (Anglesey) to the north and anywhere along the A55 to the east.

We have a large, modern training room with all the facilities you’d expect. There’s plenty of parking available and, for cyclists, we have secure bike storage and shower facilities.

Each course attendee will receive their own 37 page book containing comprehensive guidance on forestry first aid. The book is designed to supplement the Emergency First Aid and First Aid at Work qualifications, covering additional topics as recommended by the Forestry Commission.

  1. Know how to deal with a first aid emergency remote from medical assistance
    1.1 Identify how to plan for a first aid emergency
    1.2 Identify how to manage an unresponsive casualty when assistance is more than 30 minutes away
  2. Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with catastrophic bleeding
    2.1 Demonstrate how to control catastrophic bleeding using:
           • Direct pressure
           • Haemostatic dressings/agents
           • Tourniquets
    2.2 Manage a casualty suffering from hypovolaemic shock
  3. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with a crush injury
    3.1 Recognise a casualty with a crush injury
    3.2 Identify how to administer first aid for a casualty suffering a crush injury who has been:
           • Crushed for up to 15 minutes
           • Crushed for over 15 minutes
  4. Know how to provide first aid to a casualty suffering from the effects of extreme cold
    4.1 Recognise hypothermia
    4.2 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty suffering from hypothermia
  5. Know how to provide first aid for a casualty suffering from Lyme disease
    5.1 Recognise suspected Lyme disease
    5.2 Identify how to administer first aid for a tick bite
    5.3 Identify how to prevent a tick bite
